Stephen Gleeson has become an integral part of the Blues team over the last twelve months. The former MK Dons midfielder has received plaudits for his calm head in amongst the chaos of a Championship midfield battle.

To remain faithful to his trusted system, manager Gary Rowett must wrap players like Gleeson in cotton wool. Injuries to an already small can adversely affect results on the pitch.

However, there may not be only one Stephen Gleeson. Young midfielder Charlee Adams has been impressing in the development squad and is a player of the Gleeson mold.

The 20 year-old admits that he has been studying the game of his midfield colleague. Adams told the Birmingham Mail- “Before I went out on loan I probably rushed a few times on the ball. I am training with the first team quite a bit. You look at Glees, he is very calm on the ball, I have been looking at him in training. I think I have matured a bit in my play”.

Blues boss Rowett recently spoke of his faith in the youth team players meaning he has less of a need to delve into the transfer market. Adams, along with Reece Brown, Viv Solomon-Otabor and Koby Arthur, is ‘close` to the first team and Rowett said- “I have no issues throwing these young lads on if necessary”.

Earlier this week, Rowett confirmed that Adams snubbed the chance to go out on loan in favour of fighting for a first team place. That decision looks to have been justified as Adams is firmly in the managers thoughts.
