Wes Harding rocketed to the forefront of the Blues’ fans minds after his sparkling pre-season form which lead to many appreciating the youngsters talent.

As an avid watcher of the youth team in previous years, I have seen a lot of Harding and I am absolutely positive that he can make it in our team. Defenders are often known for being a bit dumb and just getting their bodies in the way. But I am sure that defenders are the cleverest on the pitch.

They have to anticipate what the attacker is going to do, basically they have to be a mind reader and always be one step ahead. Next, they have to have perfect positioning and work well with the rest of the back four in order to be coherent. It takes a special player to be a good defender, and I think that We can be one.

With Robbo slowing down and inevitably playing fewer and fewer games, it is to be expected that we need a defender in the coming months. But who can partner Morrison at the back other than Spector? I like back up options all over the pitch and I don’t think that we have anyone suitable in the first team to be this replacement option.

But I do think that Harding should be given an opportunity in the first team. Brown has been reported to have had a poor attitude in recent weeks and so it is fair enough that a player like this doesn’t get an opportunity. But Harding has a brilliant attitude. Whenever I have seen him play he has a smile on his face at all times and really does work very hard for the team.

With Morrison, he would compliment him. Wes has an air of elegance when bringing the ball out from the back and with his graceful leaps. Where as Morrison is a very much hard, tough tackling defender. Kind of like the Ferdinand-Vidic partnership.

Even if he doesn’t play often, if he is in the squad then it shows to the other youngsters that with a good attitude and hard work, then things can be achieved and it is possible to migrate into the first team if you are good enough.

I do know that he has had injuries and that has cost him a bit of time in terms of sharpness and fitness but overall, once he is fully fit, he should be given a chance.
