What Alex McLeish thought about the game

Blues manager Alex McLeish was left fuming with the referee after Tuesday`s game with Wolves, he could not believe that his side were not awarded a penalty when Marcus Bent was brought down in the box.

Andy Keogh gave the visitors the lead after 38 minutes, but soon after referee Howard Webb waved away appeals for a penalty after Wolves defender Richard Stearman brought down Marcus Bent in the area.

And just to rub salt into the wounds, the ref got in the way of a pass and gave Wolves the ball from which they scored on the break.

‘It was a major decision, the penalty one, and it wasn’t given. We felt aggrieved that it was a bad challenge on Bent,’ said the Birmingham boss.

‘But Howard’s the man on the spot and he’s a superb referee. Maybe he’ll look at it and think he’s made a mistake because he’s an honest guy.

‘I believe he got it wrong but I’ll need to see it again on television. People tell me the pictures they’ve seen are pretty conclusive

‘Big decisions change games and I wasn’t sure about Keogh’s goal for the opener, I thought he was possibly offside.’

He added: ‘We had eight players missing who could have started.

‘But I thought, by and large, the players gave everything. And when we get everyone fit again, we’ve obviously got more to give. I look forward to having everyone available to me.’
