Mick McCarthy felt his side were the better of the two after he watched Wolves beat Birmingham 2-0 at St Andrews on Tuesday night.

The Wolves boss also thought that Blues should have had a penalty when Marcus Bent went down in the box, but he wasn`t too bothered that it wasn`t given.

‘I’m very pleased with the performance, I thought we played well and deserved to win,’ he said.

‘I thought it was a penalty and, likewise I thought ours was a penalty on Saturday, but we didn’t get it.

‘You get some, you don’t get some. I haven’t seen it again but my viewing of it was that it was a penalty

‘And we were fortunate because with Richard Stearman getting booked again he would have got sent off.’

Regarding his side’s second goal, he added: ‘I was always told the referee was part of the field of play.

‘If it was me then I would be unhappy about it, of course I would, but that’s the rules, it’s part of it. And we had to do a fair bit to put it in the net after that.

‘We missed about seven or eight really good chances as well.’
