Trouble at the Back for Rotherham

Rotherham may have their full-back at centre back when they next take on Birmingham after sustaining an injury to their key defender against Sheffield Wednesday.

Usual centre back Kari Arnason was injured in Rotherham’s 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday and it saw Kirk Broadfoot move into the middle of defence.

Broadfoot managed to keep a clean sheet in the game but it was anything but plain sailing for the defender. He almost scored and own goal and picked up a yellow card within 10 minutes of moving into the middle. He also was the subject of a huge penalty shout.

It certainly presents an opportunity for Blues to look at exploiting the lack of certainty in the heart of the Rotherham defence.

News reports coming out of Rotherham suggest that Broadfoot has informed his manager that he wants a shot at centre back and we may well see him there on game day.

Blues may look to deploy Clayton Donaldson in the hope he can find his shooting boots unlike the dying moments of the last game. His heading ability could cause sufficient problems provided for by David Cotterill’s ball delivery.
