Nottingham Forest have taken up the one year extension on Robert Tesche’s contract and he will be at the club next season as things stand. But can Birmingham still secure his signature?
Gary Rowett has confirmed that he will attempt to speak to Forest in the interest of taking Tesche permanently to Birmingham. The midfielder was a key man in the successful run-in for the midlands team who managed to climb to 10th.
Tesche repeatedly said that he did not know what the future holds but was willing to return to Forest to give it another go there. It can now be revealed that they have extended his contract for another year.
However, it seems that the extension was triggered by Tesche playing a certain amount of games and actually may not be an indication that the club with to retain him.
Freedman is in the middle of a clear out as this is his first summer in charge at the club, much like what Rowett is doing at Birmingham. So it is still unclear whether Tesche will be there next season.
As it stands he now has another year there, but that doesn’t mean Freedman won’t take an offer for the player if he is on his out list and a move to Blues would achieve that.
All things are still quiet on the Birmingham front so we shall have to wait and see what they tell us in the coming weeks.
Robert Tesche joined Birmingham on loan in March and went on to cement his place in the team, scoring 2 goals. He spent most of the campaign at Nottingham Forest however failed to get into the team once they underwent a change of manager.
Having moved from Dusseldorf last summer it is still apparent that the German is certainly not ready to give up and go back home.
The German seems to be waiting to see which team wants him more and then whether Birmingham can thrash out a deal for him with his current club.
