Blues` rookie defender Emmanuel Mbende is in line for a new one-year deal at the club. Manager Gary Rowett insists the 20 year-old is progressing well and will be the recipient of a new offer.

The former Borussia Dortmund player is described by Rowett as “probably the biggest, strongest, most physically impressive centre-half you`re going to see”.

Rowett told the Birmingham Mail- “When you look at him you think he looks 25 or 26 but he`s not, he`s still a young player learning his craft. He`s come into a new environment and a new type of football. In some games one-v-one he`s outstanding defensively”.

German-born Mbende has been a key figure in the Development squad since his arrival in September. Standing at six-foot-five he is a mountain of a man.

Rowett also spoke of his weaknesses. He told the Birmingham Mail- “The other bits are that sometimes his decision-making can be better in terms of when he has to go and win the ball and when he can`t win the ball”.

Rowett continued- “I think aerially something he probably hasn`t had to do through his youth career because he`s learnt in England that you have got to head a lot of footballs, something he needs to improve on as well is his timing”.
