Paul Robinson is set to sign a one-year contract extension at the end of the season. The 37 year-old has recently lost his place in the team after 12 consecutive starts and splits opinion amongst Blues fans.

However, the Birmingham Mail conducted a survey titled ‘Is Paul Robinson worth another Birmingham City contract` and at the time of writing, 85% voted ‘Yes`.

A new deal for Robbo was a talking point in the summer and it seems it will be again this coming close season.

Like many Blues fans, I`m torn. I like Robbo as a player but can acknowledge his lack of pace can put the team in danger. Having said that, the context of the new deal will decide it for me.

Will Robbo be signing as a first team player looking for starts or as back-up and an influential figure around the dressing room? If it is the latter, Blues have nothing to lose. Unarguably, Robbo is a key figure with the younger players at the club which can only be a positive thing.

Michael Morrison is the mainstay of Gary Rowett`s back four and he is partnered with either Robinson or Jonathan Spector, Blues` longest serving player. Not many fans would argue against strengthening that area but the quality of player Blues can attract depends on which division they`re in next season.

For me, if Rowett sees Robbo as a back-up option and an experienced head to assist the younger players, he is well worth the new deal. I do question his capabilities of playing 25/30 Championship games, though.
