Yesterday the Birmingham City U21 squad travelled to Bramall Lane in order to face a promising but young Sheffield United team.

From start to finish, the game was a disappointing one. The Birmingham attack didn’t link well with the defence in most patterns of play and this led to a very sloppy game.

The first goal of the game was scored by the Sheffield striker after a corner wasn’t cleared. This will have disappointed the coaching staff as there were too many individual mistakes in the build up to the goal. Nobody took charge of the situation which was worrying considering Legzdins was the goalkeeper.

The second goal summed up the game. Sheffield went on the counter attack at lightening pace and Flynn rounded the helpless goalkeeper in order to slot the ball into the empty net.

The wind was taken out of the Blues’s sales and just about hung in there at 2-0 down.

Richard Beale spoke to the official bcfc.com after the game. He described the team as ‘poor today’ which I think is fully justified. They had a bad day at the office and do need to regroup.

A disappointing result and performance but this team is still on track to regain the Birmingham Cup and have a strong position in the league so they have a lot still to play for.
