Price Tag Set for Striker

Birmingham City have reportedly told bidding clubs that they will need to come up with £2 million in order for them to let their top scorer leave the club.

Both Reading and Leeds have been chasing the lone striker and it is understood bids of around the £750,000 mark have been knocked back.

Leeds have perhaps the strongest connection with the striker, boasting members of the Donaldson family as avid supporters. Manager Uwe Rösler also has previously worked with the player at Brentford.

As I said in a previous article, once bids start to come in it will be a guessing game as to whether the striker will leave. I would imagine that contact has been made between the player and the clubs to express an interest, neither club are really set to clearly outperform Birmingham and would no doubt check with the player before bidding.

Now it comes down to either matching what Birmingham want for the player or unsettling him enough in order to negotiate a fee between the clubs after he requests a transfer.

Leeds seem to also be in hot pursuit of Leicester striker, Chris Wood. The £2.5 million deal would see the former Blues loanee move to Elland Road this summer; and may just put the breaks on their Donaldson interest.

Reading are also being hotly tipped to sign striker, Orlando Sa. The Portuguese strikers arrival at the Madejski may also have an effect on their interest for Donaldson.

I contacted the club earlier today for comment and they reiterated their previous stance, the club do not wish to sell Donaldson and he remains an integral part of Gary Rowett’s plans.
