It is Mick McCarthy and Ipswich Town who are next up for Gary Rowett and his team. Blues would be very pleased with an away point against a sturdy playoff outfit in opposition tonight.

Ipswich are a solid home performer with a 60% win rate over their last 20 games at Portman Road. They have lost just 1 game to teams positioned in the lower half of the table, as Birmingham now are.

Birmingham’s away form still doesn’t read too positively over a 20 game period and their win rate is at 25%, drawing 40% and losing 35%. Rowett’s men have managed just 2 wins against teams in the top half but have gained a respectable 6 draws in their last 20.

Reading (13th) managed a slight 1-0 win over the home team today when they visited Portman Road on 21 Feb. So this is not a forgone conclusion by any stretch of the imagination.

The Blues are on the back of a 4-3 away defeat to Brighton, where they struggled to adapt to life without David Davis. Rowett has vowed to shake things up after his side have lost their desire to win in recent weeks.

The odds do seem heavily in Ipswich favour, and a draw for Birmingham would be a fantastic result, despite us seeing a lot of deadlocks just recently.

Both Wes Thomas and Lee Novak played well when they came off the bench against Brighton and both of them have been brought into the team for tonight’s game.

Staring 11: Randolph; Caddis, Spector, Robinson, Grounds; Gleeson; Davis; Novak; Cotteril, Donaldson; Thomas.

Subs: Doyle, Kiernan, Reilly, Zigic, Shinnie, Gray, Dyer.
