This week, I proposed a poll on who the readers of this website thought would prove to be the best signing that Gary Rowett has made this summer.

Several responses later and here is the result:

Who Will Be Our Best Signing?
Alex Jones 2%
Tomasz Kuszczak 12%
Adam Legzdins 4%
Jacques Maghoma 8%
Jon Toral 12%
Maikel Kieftenbeld 62%

In last place is Alex Jones. This is hardly surprising as he is a young talent that has featured mainly at development squad level. Despite linking up well with Johnstone on a few outings for the youth team this pre-season, Jones is not ready for Championship life.

However 2% of people thought he would be. It would be interesting to see your reasoning so please comment below.

Adam Legzdins is next in the list with 4%. Having sold Randolph, all that was left at the club was Nick Townsend who is very inexperienced for a goalkeeper. So Rowett brought in Legzdins to fill the number two jersey, I would assume.

A headache for Rowett has been caused though, because Adam has had some terrific performances in pre-season and his shot stopping is something to be admired. I am sure that when called upon he will do a brilliant job for the Blues’. I would like to see him as first choice but I think that’ll fall to Kuszczak.

Jacques Maghoma is in 4th place in the poll with 8% of the vote. He has shown glimpses of being a good player especially with his strength. But somehow I fail to see him being a game changer. A very competent player nonetheless.

Tied for second spot is Tomasz Kuszczak (who I shall call TK from now on due to the time it takes me to type out his name) and Jon Toral.

This is a surprise as Toral has just joined the Blues’ from Arsenal on a loan and so hasn’t really had chance to show what he can do despite a few minutes in the 3-2 defeat to Leicester City. He does look like a good addition to the squad and I think he will do well. Will he be our best signing? That’s debatable as he’s unproven.

TK was also in second place and this was less of a surprise. A goalkeeper who has proven himself at both Championship and Premier League level. Experience is crucial for goalkeepers and TK has bags of it. The only concern I have is that he often makes crucial mistakes and in the long run, may cost points. Despite this, it is an upgrade from Randolph.

Now for the winner…

With a massive 62% of the vote;

Maikel Kieftenbeld is the poll winner and I can see why! He got my vote too and I am delighted that he has signed for us. He is like a silent assassin who just goes about his business breaking up play left right and centre. Unlike Gleeson, he breaks up the opposition play rather than our own.

He kick starts attack with ultimate efficiency and against Leicester, he looked like he had being playing in this team for years. A man who has the same composure as James Bond is certainly someone who I want at Birmingham City and I am pleased that we get the pleasure of watching him week in week out.
