Blues club reprenstatives held one-to-one meetings with the players yesterday as they consider Steve Cotterill’s future.

Vital Birmingham understands that the players remain strongly in favour of Cotterill staying on as manager. The ultimate decision will rest with the board – but the players, and Xuandong Ren, have come out in support of the 53 year-old.

Yesterday, captain Harlee Dean claimed that the players were the ones to blame and called upon the fans to back Cotterill.

But Saturday’s defeat to Barnsley was marred by ugly scenes in which the manager was pelted with missiles and subject to chants calling for his head.

It seems that the players are firmly behind their boss while the majority of fans wish to see him relieved of his duties.

It’s set to be a busy day at St. Andrews.

  • This is a bit weird for me because the players don’t seem to be supporting him when they step on to the pitch. I just can’t see Adams, Jota, Morrison backing him for instance. Also the players can’t be seen to be publicly against SC so I’m not surprised HD the captain is towing the official line.

  • What the players say collectively, or in public, is quite likely to be different from what they say in one-on-ones. That is the point of such individual meetings.
If the players really DO have 100% support for Cotterill, then it makes even less sense to me the kind of performances they have given lately. I think it is a simple case of the players’ belief has gone, both in the manager and in the cause.

  • Nothing seems sense because they all have failed and are all probably making excuses to Hong kong …it will end up as the fans fault and then carry on as we are possibly ….

  • Having thought a little more about this I think It would take a lot of courage for a Championship player to say they’re against the manager, even privately one-on-one. Can you trust the representatives for instance? The last thing you would want for your career is to be labelled a trouble maker. It is not as though any of them are top PL players who would have a pick of teams to play for regardless. Also who are the clubs representatives? Some bloke from Hong Kong you have never met before, or Ren??

  • Cotterill had an empty plastic bottle thrown towards him. It missed and landed on the floor. That’s hardly him being pelted with missiles. The guy who threw his season ticket into Cotterills face was a more serious incident. The overzealous stewarding and policing to eject 6 fans for shouting Cotterill f##k off within earshot of the dugout. Apparently charged with verbally abusing a member of staff of BCFC. It was relatively mild from the fans. Unless the players can turn it on for their mate Cot it will get worse.
