Panos Pavlakis has told bcfc.com that running a club like a business, and not being a football man, has enabled him to steer the club in the right direction, after a period of decline.

Back in January 2014, Mr Pavlakis joined Birmingham International Holdings limited and from that point on came to Birmingham to begin evaluating the club, in some detail.

He met with supporters representatives and spent time in the UK, at the football club, in what he has called ‘soft due diligence’.

Pavlakis revealed his management style is to make decisions quickly and in June 2014 he moved to the UK permanently to run the club. It is here where he found aspects of the club that caused him concern.

From this point on, he says, he encouraged BIHL to bring in the receivers and try to ensure the club had a stable and transparent future.

What is clear from the interview is that Panos is happy Ernest and Young are providing much more information from Hong Kong than what was previously available to the fans. He also tweets as much as he is allowed to reveal to try to communicate with the support.

In terms of what is happening with the investor and the takeover, Pavlakis said the club has been committed money and in Hong Kong they are saying that the investor is happy to go ahead with the deal. And, as previously stated, they have no connection to Yeung and Pannu. Non-disclosure agreements prevent him from saying anymore.

The senior management at St Andrews were praised for the way the club is run and for their approach to the job at hand, day in and day out during the tough times. Pavlakis, as we were told before, revealed they played a huge part in steering the club towards Gary Rowett and his team.

Perhaps the most interesting point the Director made was to say that money made by the club remains here and is reinvested into the club. He said the budget had unexpected revenue to spend because there were more fans in the ground following the Rowett revolution.

That’s right you heard it right, if you put your bums on the seats, the club can spend more money. Deals like the one for Michael Morrison was one that Mr Pavlakis pointed to. It is a matter of ‘proper housekeeping’, he said.

It would seem that as Blues improve, they will be able to invest further and perhaps with the right changes each year the club can really kick on and materialise something good.
