Opinion: Will we sign another striker?

As most fans are aware, Blues are lacking a striker than can partner Clayton Donaldson and even replace him when the time comes.

Despite having the likes of both Wes Thomas and Lee Novak who are both capable of playing upfront, I just can’t see either of them doing what Donaldson does week in week out.

As highlighted in a previous article on the site, there are three strikers that I believe would suit Birmingham City but it is highly unlikely that any of them would come in.

However, with the news breaking that Denny Johnstone has joined Scottish championship side Greenock Morton, there could yet be developments on a move for a striker in the coming weeks. Who, I do not know but I certainly think there will be some developments.

Blues currently have former MK Dons loanee Devante Cole on trail, son of ex-Blues player Andy, but no news has come out of the camp as to whether we will actually sign him.

At the tender age of just 19, I can’t see the club offering him a deal because he would only be filling the space that Johnstone has left but he might offer something different that Rowett wants and we are yet to see.

I personally believe developments on a move for a striker will be kept very quiet if there are any at all. A loan move is something that I can see happening and somebody that I have identified as a potential target would be Ivan Toney.

Currently with League Two side Northampton Town, Toney caused us all sorts of problems when the sides met earlier this month.

However, he is on the brink of joining Newcastle United but I do not believe he is ready for their first team and there might be the opportunity to take him on loan.

Would it be a good deal for the club? Personally I think it would be a fantastic signing for the club because he would offer pace, power and he would also be a threat in the air which is different to what we have at the moment.

All in all, I think we will sign another striker but if a move for somebody does come about, I can guarantee we wouldn’t know about it until it happened.
