Well folks, that’s it for another season and I have to say it has been an honour to witness the turnaround that Gary Rowett has brought to the club over the season.

Fans who say they are disappointed with the campaign, have a long hard look at yourselves! Yes, we may have finished in the same spot and with exactly the same points as last season but the fact of the matter is is that we competed with the very best up until the 35 game mark and then we simply couldn’t handle the pressure, something which showed in Saturday’s game against Cardiff City.

The home side were the more dominant throughout, something which we have come to expect over the season, but it was Blues who took the lead in what was really their first real attack.

A wayward cross found Welshman David Cotterill lurking on the edge of the area and with the Cardiff defenders backing off, he produced a low fizzing drive which found the bottom corner beautifully.

Blues then looked in control but unfortunately an error at the back allowed the Bluebirds back into the game.

A hopeful cross to the back post looked to have been dealt with by Jonathan Grounds but after mis-kicking the ball, Anthony Pilkington was able to sneak in and poke the ball over Adam Legzdins and into the back of the net.

In the second half, Blues could, and most definitely should have won the game. Cotterill’s freekick from the left hand side looked to have found the opposite top corner but for a fantastic clearance on the line from a home player.

And in the final five minutes of the game, Blues had two glorious chances, both of which fell to substitute James Vaughan. The on loan Huddersfield Town striker pinched the ball off the defender going clean through but his effort hit the post and then in stoppage time his header was cleared off the line, but the ball did appear to be over it by at least half a yard.

Down below are the player ratings for the final game of the season…

Legzdins – 6

Spector – 6

Morrison – 7

Robinson – 6

Grounds – 5

Adams – 6

Kieftenbeld – 7

Davis – 5

Cotterill – 8 and my Man of the Match.

Fabbrini – 7

Donaldson – 7

Substitutes: Gleeson (5), Solomon-Otabor (5), Vaughan (5).
