A question that has sparked much debate in recent weeks between Birmingham City fans is who do you play in the number 10 role in the side, Jon Toral or Diego Fabbrini?

Blues boss Gary Rowett has had his say, expressing that both Toral and Fabbrini can play in the same team, under the right circumstances, but we are yet to understand what circumstances they are and whether we will see them in the same team together this season is something else which we don`t know ourselves.

Personally, I feel as though Toral has been a revelation this season in the number 10 role scoring seven goals so far and for me, he doesn’t deserve to be replaced based on his performances this campaign.

However I do think that Fabbrini is a great signing in the long term for the club and his clear quality can help move our club forward but I don`t think he fits our style of play for this season.

I am not doubting Fabbrini`s ability on the ball but he likes to find space and work in close proximity with his team mates whereas Toral is more than happy to pass the ball long, look for a team mate with a neat pass and he also isn`t afraid to shoot.

The difference between starting Toral or Fabbrini for me is the opposition that the blues face each week. I personally believe that Fabbrini is best suited to fixtures where the opposition attempt to sit off and allow us to have the ball which allows Fabbrini to find pockets of space and run with the ball.

However, Toral is suited more to a physical game where the opposition are pressing Blues into tight spaces, which is where, as many Blues fans will have seen this season, Jon shines with his astonishingly quick feet and trickery.

Overall, I thought Rowett made the correct decision starting Toral over Fabbrini against a team of Hull City`s calibre, strength, tenacity and intensity but I am confident both could still play together successfully at St Andrews.
