Many Blues fans will be slightly disappointed with some of the performances from Demarai Gray so far this season, myself included in that bunch, but I still think there are positive signs showing.

In his most recent performance against Leeds United, despite picking up an injury which has kept him out of international duty, he scored his first goal of the season and could have even had more.

His strike, which was lifted into the roof of the net, was top quality and I think Blues fans will be expecting more of that now he is off the mark for the 2015/2016 campaign.

I however, can’t see him scoring massive amounts of goals this season yet again. Last season, he netted six times, including a hattrick against Reading in a 6-1 win.

As one of the hottest properties in the Championship, you would be expecting him to be scoring double that, but it just isn’t happening.

Something that gets pointed out to me an awful lot is the fact that Gray hasn’t got any end product, which I have to agree with sometimes.

Yes, he can beat a man but when it comes to delivering the ball into the box and finding his man, I have only seen him do it once or twice this season.

Looking at the game against Leeds last weekend, he raced up the pitch and had three other Birmingham City players to choose from, yet he still couldn’t get the final ball past the single defender. That for me just isn’t good enough.

The lad knows what he has to do and he even said it after the match! He is still working on boosting his confidence and now he has his first goal of the season, hopefully things will start to pick up in front of goal.

However, can Demarai Gray reach the ten goal barrier which would highlight his on field promise? For me, like I have previously said, I think no.

There is no doubt whatsoever that the boy has talent but applying it is a different matter altogether. If he can start scoring every other game then I will start to think differently, but at this moment in time, I can’t see it happening and I am sure many fans will agree with me.

Blues are looking to get between £7/8 million for him, but without the goals and assists, he is worth no more than the £5 million we rejected off Bournemouth in January.

Some of you may think I am being a little bit harsh on Gray with this criticism but you have to look at it from a logical perspective and not just as a fan.

If Gray wants to continue to improve, he needs to add more assists and goals to his game, as well as becoming less predictable with the things that he does.

Blues fans, do you think Demarai Gray can breach the ten goal barrier? Do you think I am right with the comments and criticism that I have made? Let us know in the comment section down below!
