After bringing you the news yesterday that Clayton Donaldson would be joining up with the Jamaica national side for the first time in his career, I thought it would only be right to comment on it.

To begin with, I think all Blues fans will agree with me in saying that this has been a long time coming. Donaldson has worked his socks off for the club since he has been here and the arrival of Gary Rowett really push Clayton’s Birmingham City career into motion.

As last seasons top goal scorer, an international call up will never have been far away but I can only imagine that the time has never been right as the nation very rarely have many matches.

Now Donaldson has his chance to follow in the footsteps of former Blues striker Marlon King, who also represented Jamaica on the international stage.

King made 24 appearances for his national side. scoring an impressive 12 goals during his nine year stint in the team. A return of a goal every two matches is something which Donaldson will be hoping to follow.

Should he hit the ground running on the international stage, Blues fans will be hoping that he can continue that form into the league having only found the back of the net four times this year.

However, I am not going to take away the fact that he has been a vital part to our squad and without him we probably wouldn’t have the success that we do on such a regular basis.

As a fan, it is always nice to know that your teams players are getting recognised by their nations managers and I for one will be hoping that Clayton does his nation proud when he represents them against Panama and Haiti later next month.

Blues fans, are you happy to see that Clayton Donaldson’s hard work is finally being recognised on an international scale? Let us know in the comment section down below!
