One to Watch: Kevin McDonald

The game against Wolves is often a fiery affair with both sides fans eager for a win. Birmingham host Wolves on Saturday and this time around the opposition may not be counting themselves as favourites. Birmingham will need to be mindful of central midfielder Kevin McDonald.

In an underperforming Wolves side McDonald continues to impress in his role in the centre. The defensive minded playmaker has a wonderful technique when passing and is unlikely to lose possession much during the game.

In addition to his ball retention, he is very good at finding players in advanced positions. He isn’t afraid to look long in a bid to create a chance for his team.

Another interesting stat is that he is fouled quite often during games. This may well be something that plays well into Wolves’ hands if the Blues midfielders are not careful in how they approach him. Getting too tight to McDonald may result in game influencing bookings.

That does not mean he shouldn’t be closed down, McDonald will shoot from distance and for that reason Blues will want to shut him down if he is in their half.

I’m a keen admirer of McDonald. A diverse midfielder that can play the ball and run with it, Birmingham will have an interesting midfield battle on their hands.

Do you rate McDonald? or am I being too generous here?
