David Murphy has been ruled out until after Christmas with a swollen knee injury.

The left back has already missed the previous two games. Murphy has struggled with injuries in the past and missed ten months up until last September following knee surgery.

Upon his return he had done really well and his quality from set pieces and freekicks always add to Blues dimensions.

This is the latest of a growing list of injuries, with Blues losing Matt Green for the season earlier this week, and Neil Eardley already not set to return this year.

Blues squad probably cannot take much more thinning out and this latest injury definitely goes some way to leaving Lee Clark short staffed.

Mitch Hancox has already taken over the position, he came in against Huddersfield. With Murphy’s continuing injury problems and his increasing age, it is time Birmingham look to Hancox to push on and make that position his own.

It is becoming clear that Murphy may not be keeping so well as he progresses into the latter stages of his career.
