Morrison Not Guaranteed To Go Back In

Gary Rowett has revealed that he has a selection headache ahead of Birmingham’s next game against Rotherham. Michael Morrison is ready to return to action, but Spector has performed well at the back, said Rowett.

The manager praised Spector’s ability and attitude towards his job and all but confirmed the club would more than likely offer him a new deal to stay at Birmingham.

“He has done really well, if I judged him on what he has done since he has come back into the side.

I have seen a lot of him over the years, he has played in a multitude of positions in the Premier League – that shows the class of the player. That shows the ability level of the player.

One thing you would say about Specs is, he is a real professional, everything he does is absolutely to the tee. I think that`s the type of player you like to keep around.”

But does Spector’s decent performances mean he deserves to keep Morrison out the team in a bid to partner Rob Kiernan?

Well I would agree that Spector has played okay since coming in for Michael Morrison. However I would argue that his performances have not been at the same level as Morrison; Whilst I probably agree that Kiernan should stay in the team.

Spector has had some pretty good games, the Derby game, the wins over Blackpool and Brentford also come to mind as good performances.

There are however some concerning ones, like last time out against Cardiff. The 4-3 defeat to Brighton was also a poor defensive effort from Blues.

Morrison hasn’t played since January, but from what I can recall he rarely puts a foot wrong and does seem more reliable at the back. The most persuasive factor for me is that Blues seemed in better form with Morrison at the back.

That is not to say that the team still weren’t conceding goals, Blues went down 4-0 to Derby with Morro at the back, it wouldn’t be sensible to predict that Blues will not concede with the return of Morrison.

In conclusion, they both deserve to play as they have both respectively performed well during their time in the team. So it then comes down to who has to better skill-set (who’s the better defender disregarding form) to undertake the role, and for me that is Michael Morrison.

I hope to see him on the team sheet after the international break.
