On Friday afternoon, Birmingham City announced their first signing of this summer transfer window in the form of ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder Robert Tesche and with Blues’ Marbella training camp just round the corner, I believe we could see another signing this week.

It was announced in May via the official Blues website that the club would be heading back to Spain this summer to undergo a private training camp from July 4th through to July 9th and with that in mind, I think Gary Rowett will want to get at least one more body through the door before the step on the plane.

Over the weekend, the Blues boss discussed how he wanted his players in tip top condition ahead of the new English Football League season and that hints at the fact that he would like to have the majority of his squad on this warm weather training camp rather than struggling to bring in a player at the last minute.

With the likes of Viv Solomon-Otabor and Nicolai Brock-Madsen both heading off to Brazil this summer, I am sure that Rowett will want as many of his first team up to scratch fitness wise ahead of the first game of the season against Cardiff City on the 6th of August.

Although there are eight preseason games planned altogether, two being played on the same night (19th July), they don’t always show how well the players are performing, and if new players are brought in between those games, it can sometimes prove challenging for them to get up to the standards that the other players are at because they haven’t been through the warm weather training.

Recently, Blues have been linked with a whole host of names, including the likes of James Wilson from Manchester United, Tom Bradshaw from League One side Walsall and former loanee Ryan Shotton, and if Rowett can get Panos Pavlakis to work hard on these types of deals, then I am sure we will see at least one new face through the door at St.Andrews this week at least.

Personally, I can see Shotton being the next player to be confirmed as a Birmingham City player just because talks are already at an advanced stage, but if the rumours are true, Bradshaw could move within the next few weeks if an official bid is placed for him, but other targets are hard to confirm.

In all honesty, it wouldn’t come as that much of a shock to me if there was a player brought in from abroad with several scouting trips having already happened so I think there could be a surprise package on the way in the near future.

Blues fans, how important is it for us to have all our players on the same fitness level ahead of the new season? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
