Birmingham City are targeting Borussia Monchengladbach striker Peniel Mlapa, according to the72.co.uk.

Mlapa spent last season on loan at FC Nurnberg and Blues manager Gary Rowett is now looking to bring him to St. Andrew`s. Despite having a career scoring ratio of one goal every six games, the powerful striker could be a useful asset in the Championship with his six-foot-five frame.

The 24 year-old started his career at 1860 Munich before moving to Monchengladbach in 2012. Having represented Germany for U19 and U21 level on 31 occasions, experience certainly won`t be an issue.

Since Nikola Zigic`s contract expired, Blues have lost a great deal of height in forward areas. Clayton Donaldson is currently the tallest striker, standing at six-foot-one.

Mlapa could offer Rowett a plan B and would be an ideal target man for wide players, especially when chasing games.

Rowett has openly admitted his intention of brining in a striker to boost the forward areas but has had no breakthrough with previous targets.
