Blues manager Alex McLeish has fired a warning to his first team squad that they could end up missing out on promotion unless the results change pretty quickly.

Birmingham have picked up just one point out of the last nine and that point came from a 1-1 draw with struggling Nottingham Forest, a game that Blues should have been looking to get all three points from to keep up their good start to the season.

After the game McLeish said: ‘We wouldn’t get promoted with that type of performance.

‘The players came in and had a go at each other and I was glad to hear it. What was said in the dressing room remains private but it was frustration at the last three performances. At least some of them are aware of it because thank God it wasn’t my voice again.

‘They need to be aware of how important getting back into the Premier League is to Birmingham.’
