Linked players well out of Blues’ reach?

Over the past seven days, several names have been linked with a rumoured transfer to the club, and although I would love to see some of them join Birmingham City this summer, you have to ask yourself, can we really afford those types of players?

On Friday afternoon, we brought you the news that Gary Rowett had reportedly made enquiries about Welsh international Hal Robson-Kanu. On Sunday afternoon, we reiterated the fact that the club were keen on bringing in Manchester United forward James Wilson and we also followed up the story that the Blues were interested in Charlton Athletic midfielder Jordan Cousins.

All three links were really nice to see and they are players that Blues should be going after because they can certainly move the club forward and help us get to where we need to be next season and in my eyes, that is in and around the play-offs.

Despite last seasons efforts, we fell just short of the mark at the end of the campaign which was a little disappointing for most, and with the right additions this summer, I think we could really push on next year.

However, the players that are currently being linked with us just seem a little out of our price range if you ask me. Although we have been promised a transfer ‘warchest’ in January, it isn’t here yet so we do need to be realistic.

Although there will most definitely be players coming in this summer, they might not be names that we are all too familiar with, but is that necessarily a bad thing? Yes it didn’t work out with Nicolai Brock-Madsen but look at Maikel Kieftenbeld, what a signing he has been!

I trust Rowett with every move that he makes and even if it doesn’t work out to begin with, I am sure they will come good sooner or later. According to the Birmingham Mail, enquiries have been made for Ryan Shotton and Tom Bradshaw so they could be moves that materialise in the next few weeks hopefully, but in the meantime, should we really be focusing all of our attentions on rumours that are linking us with players who might potentially be out of our budget?

The interest in United’s Wilson is thought to be quite genuine so it would be interesting to see how that one develops and who knows, I could be proved completely wrong and he may be in our budget.

However, Robson-Kanu is a player I just don’t think we can compete for and if by some miracle a move does happen, I will be the first person to send a well done card to Rowett and Panos Pavlakis because it would show a real sign of intent beating several Premier League clubs to his signature.

Blues fans, do you think the targets that we have been linked with in the past week have been realistic ones? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
