Are Birmingham set to lose their latest young starlet after more rumored interest from abroad and at home.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg are weighing up a move for Demarai Gray. There are also increasing reports that Liverpool are now seriously thinking about a move for the winger.
Gray is yet to sign a new deal, and it was no doubt a far better deal that he was already on. Now he is either holding out for more money from Blues, or wants to be able to force a move should a big club come in for him. That or he is focusing on football and nothing else … doubtful, I’ve never heard of a footballer waiting to take a pay rise.
The realisation is that he may well be on his way out, either now or at the end of the season. The interest in him is continuing to rise and I don’t see that slowing down.
Blues at this time are going to struggle to match his ambitions if he is already looking at where he could be instead of where he could get to with Birmingham.
It’s a great shame to lose such players but I’m not hopeful. Gray especially fits the Liverpool template under Rodgers and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they did come in for him, in which case I can’t see him remaining here.
The way I’m looking at it is, the bigger the club the better. I don’t really think another Championship club would benefit him any more than we could at this point in his career. Also, Premier League clubs are often willing to leave January purchases with their current club via a loan back deal. That could see Blues through to the end of the season.
It would be nice to get at least one full season out of the youngster before he goes. At the very least we know he is going to cost more than previous graduates.
