Key player Vs. Sheffield Wednesday

Blues travel to Hillsborough on Friday evening to take on Sheffield Wednesday in front of the Sky Sports cameras, on the back of their first victory under Gianfranco Zola last weekend.

Carlos Carvalhal`s side currently occupy sixth place in the Championship and are unbeaten in five at home so it will no doubt be a tough match for Zola`s side.

However, if Blues are to come away with something from the game then I think that David Davis will be key to it.

Sheffield Wednesday are an extremely good side with and without the ball and it’s likely that they’ll have their fair share of possession against Blues.

That’ll mean that Blues need to be compact, organised and there needs to be someone that breaks the play up and gets Blues on the front foot.

Davis will be that man to cover the ground in the middle, getting his foot in at every opportunity.

If Blues play a 4-1-2-1-2 formation, as they did last game, then it will also be Davis` job to support our full back when defending.

With the likes of Ross Wallace, Fernando Forestieri and Callum McManaman all likely to occupy wide positions for Wednesday at some point during the game, it is crucial that the midfielders don’t leave our fullbacks one on one with them.

We all know that Zola wants this team to have a lot more of the possession but it will be very hard against a team like Sheffield Wednesday to dictate play.

So, when we do get our opportunity to attack, we need some drive from the likes of Davis to get us forward and support the likes of Lukas Jutkiewicz.

The energy and athleticism of Davis could really benefit Blues in a game like this, especially if Blues have to be patient and then break on Carvalhal`s side.

But, if the team stick to the task and make themselves hard to break down, then I don’t see any reason why we can’t go and grab a second successive win.
