Birmingham City captain Michael Morrison will be unavailable for several weeks after undergoing a hernia operation yesterday.

The 28-year-old has been struggling with the problem for a period of time and it was decided that the surgery was the best way to resolve the issue.

Blues manager Gianfranco Zola also confirmed that Ryan Shotton, Morrison’s usual central defensive partner, is also likely to miss the trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday evening. Zola told bcfc.com- ‘The operation went well, but he will need some time to recover. I think Ryan Shotton is not going to be available’.

For Saturday’s win against Fulham, left back Jonathan Grounds moved inside to partner Paul Robinson in the heart of the defence, a partnership that Zola may stick with. Also waiting in the wings is Arsenal loanee Krystian Bielik who is still awaiting his first appearance for Blues.
