It Wasn’t Our Day

After seeing us lose to Reading, after stuffing Newcastle, Steve Bruce has admitted it just wasn’t our day.

Speaking on the official site he reflected:

‘It was a cracking cup tie but it wasn’t our day today.

‘I didn’t think there was much between the teams and if anything I thought we edged it in terms of being the better side.

‘But today we didn’t take our chances

‘I don’t remember a game particularly in the first half where we’ve had as many clear-cut ones as well.

‘They were really good opportunities.

‘There was DJ’s right after they scored, then Cameron Jerome’s header and then he’s through again.

‘I think in total we’ve had five or six in the first half and you know when you miss them you’re going to be up against it.

‘I think Reading had two shots up until the third goal.

‘Unfortunately we’ve made two defensive mistake for the first two goals.

‘And then the third goal has come off Upson’s chest and gone into their player’s path.

‘But it was a good cup tie, but it was a pity we didn’t score a little bit earlier from Larsson, which would have made even better.

‘On other day it could have been another result like Newcastle, but sometimes you have to accept that’s what the game’s all about.

‘The pitch was not going to be perfect, but in my opinion it’s better than what it was three weeks ago because it’s not dangerous.

‘It’s a bit dead, but apparently when it’s down a couple of weeks it will be a lot better, so Chelsea tell us.’
