Demarai Gray has been the subject of plenty of speculation over the past few weeks. Gary Rowett is determined to get the most out of the player, what ever the situation.
‘If you are a young lad I would rather be listening to speculation about lots of big clubs wanting to sign me than absolutely no speculation at all and no-one interested in you,’
‘It might just inspire you to better performances. All I look at is what is good for this club and if that benefits this club and it doesn’t affect him too much. At the end of the day he’s 18-years-old and we don’t want to put too much pressure on his shoulders. At the moment he is doing great and long may it continue.
An interesting point from Rowett, using the interest in Gray to spur him on to do better for Birmingham is clever man management, a skill the manager is clearly very good at.
If we do have to lose Gray at some point, best to get the most out of him whilst he is here.
‘Lots of clubs are looking at Demarai at the moment, as we know from our scouting lists on the games – but I think that’s just testament to the fact he is a really bright 18-year-old footballer who is doing really well. If that manifests itself into other clubs making bids then I don’t know what’s going to lie ahead.’
Confirmation that, as we said previously, there are a lot more clubs looking at Demarai Gray than people think. Plenty of clubs are weighing up the player. But they are also waiting to see what he might be worth.
Scouts are around all of the time and more often than not something rules clubs out, whether that be budget or maybe not enough room in their squad.
Gray may well be gone before the end of the window, but for now he is a Birmingham City player and it will be interesting to see how he plays when serious bids come in for him.
