Birmingham City have reportedly made a bid in the region £1 million for Virtus Entella defender Cheick Keita according to the Mail online.

The 20-year-old is a product of the Monaco academy but he is currently playing in the second tier of Italian football which could be one of the reasons why Panos Pavlakis was in Italy at the start of the January transfer window.

When Gianfranco Zola arrived at the club it was quite obvious that Blues were going to be linked with players who are currently playing in Italy and he is the fourth player currently playing abroad that Blues have been linked with in a matter of weeks.

Blues desperately need reinforcements at the back and it now looks like the club are set to beat Newcastle United to the signature of Keita.

Would he be a good addition to the squad Blues fans? Let us know in the comment section down below!

  • He is a attaching wingback he looks a good player as a good cross and gets forward he as a lot more pace than grounds and will not drift in to midfield like grounds dues. He will support the fount man. 1mil is cheap maybe there is add-ons involved. When I first read this I fort that it would be hard to get him but apparently he as ambitions to play in England. Tottenham, have watched him and Newcastle was monitoring him last season but it looks like they have lost interest since they got relegated. Hope we get him he will only get better with age and would come with a big sell on profit margin 1mil or 2mil is a bargain because if he can do in England what he dues in Italy he would be a 8mil + player. • Reading this story on other sites it seems it’s this lads agent that’s trying to drum up interest. I wish people would get facts before printing this rubbish

  • I would say Grounds is one of the best crossers of the ball we have WayCoolBlue, also why every time we are linked with a defender is it Grounds that has to be the one being replaced? Him and Shotton have been really consistent this season, yes he makes mistakes, but we signed the guy on a free. Too many fans underestimate his contribution to the team.
