Maikel Kieftenbeld has left Birmingham City to complete a Deadline Day move to Derby County.

The fee for the 27-year-old is undisclosed, he links up with former manager Gary Rowett.

A tenacious, hard working midfielder, Kieftenbeld joined Blues in 2015 and gave us some great memories – his thunderbolt volley away at Derby is the one that springs to mind.

He made 45 and 42 appearances in his first two full seasons at the club, scoring four times in the league.

Good luck, Dutch Mike!

  • What, did we receive 5.5 million for him ? Wow,this has caught me by surprise,I rated Kieftenbeld ,hard working always, tough in a tackle and plenty of skill, not a player I thought we would be even considering releasing. Rowett was determined to raid us,he got one out of three however I wish he had failed to capture Kieftenbeld .
I wish him well and thank him for his time with us.

  • If we have sold Kieftenbeld for 5.5 million pounds it takes the shine off all the good transfer’s Redknapp has achieved for it would signal he was told by the board to recoup some of the money he has spent.I haven’t found any link stating what we sold him for but you can be sure it was not a free transfer.Sad to see a good player in his prime moving to a team that will be in the promotion mix.

  • Yes Kief was hard working but his passing and ball control wasn’t great. I must admit I don’t know a lot about Lowe or Walsh but we have a lot of midfielders so Kief won’t be missed.

  • Sometimes the qualities of a hard working grafter are exactly what is needed in some games MK was that grafter. If Rowett has signed him it tells a story in itself,he knew the player, knew his qualities and limitations. We have signed well,we have a great attacking midfielder now from Brentford,I truly believe MK still had a role to play and would love to know the exact amount we sold him for.

  • Hearing various figures banded around about how much we received for Keifenbeld.from in excess of £5 million down to £600000,if the latter figure was all we gt we may have well just given him away,it was a mistake to sell him,we will miss his energy and his willingness to fight for the cause.
