Notts County manager Shaun Derry is to take another look at former Birmingham City youngster Akwasi Asante as he looks for a striker to plug injury problems within his team.

Jimmy Spencer, Notts main striker has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury and so Asante`s chances of being signed may have just risen dramatically.

The former Blues trainee took part in a friendly against Derby and apparently showed some nice touches as Notts went down 3-1. He is now set to play some part in another friendly against Charlton.

Asante failed to make an impact at Birmingham making just one appearance in his time and being loaned out to Shrewsbury and Northampton. It appears Shrewsbury have not offered him a deal yet despite him training with them for pre-season. Now he will be hoping to impress further north.

Birmingham are short for strikers themselves as they consider a move for Celtic teenager Donny Johnstone.
