Former Birmingham City loanee Federico Macheda has been explaining why he chose Cardiff City this summer. The Italian was out of contract at Manchester United and had spent the finishing stages of the deal on loan at Blues.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reserve team manager when Macheda was promoted to Sir Alex Ferguson`s title winning team and Macheda says he was instrumental in helping him get there.

The Cardiff boss, being a striker, is of particular benefit to the 22 year old he said and he feels that he is being understood well in Cardiff.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was one of the main reasons I came to this club He played a big part of my decision.”

The Rome born young man then explained he was still working on his game, particularly his finishing. He said he is hungry to score in every game and wants to do well for Cardiff.

Birmingham City fans will surely supply Macheda with a glowing reference after the striker scored 10 goals in 18 appearances for The Blues, eight of those appearances coming from the bench with not long to play.

Macheda scored the equaliser against Derby (3-3), a brace against Charlton (2-0); Burnley (3-3); Bournemouth (2-4); Doncaster (3-1); and then just the one against Leeds in a 3-1 defeat.

Based on how he finished the season with Blues, Cardiff may have a quality goal scorer for next season.
