Blues have agreed a deal with Faroe Islands international Ingi Hojsted, skysports.com have reveal.
The Blues spotted Hojsted during a recent World Cup qualifier in Israel when the Faroes lost 2-1.
Hojsted impressed and a deal has been quickly struck with the 20-year-old who has arrived at St Andrews from B36 Torshavn.
His contract at B36 had expired and because the season is finished in the Faroe Islands, he is free to move outside of the transfer window.
‘This is a great opportunity for him,’ his agent Jakap Storustovu told skysports.com.
‘It was his biggest dream to come back to England.
‘The deal is all done, he has signed and passed his medical and he is now waiting for the clearance to come through.’
The youngster is no stranger to England, having spent most of his career in Arsenal’s youth system.
Hojsted, featured in the same youth side as Neil Kilkenny and Sam Oji.
The Gunners swooped for him when he was aged just 15 and he spent four years with the North London giants before being released last year after struggling with injury.
He returned to his homeland after leaving Arsenal and went back to B36 – the club he began his career with, but he has wasted little time in earning a move back to The Premiership.
Storustovu explained that Hojsted never got a real chance to impress at Highbury because of his injury problems.
‘Ingi had many injuries during his time at Arsenal and we thought it was best he returned home and played every week,’ he continued.
‘We got him a top fitness coach and he soon recovered his form and won a place in the national team and is now completely over his problems.
‘He is delighted with the move and now just wants to impress at Birmingham.’
Birmingham are now hopeful that international clearance will arrive for Hojsted in the coming days which will allow him to play straight away.
The move for Hojsted will help bolster Steve Bruce’s options – which have been severely depleted in recent weeks.
