Birmingham’s System of Pace

Birmingham manager Lee Clark now thinks his team are better equipped for the Championship now the team has a turn of pace within their ranks.

The Blues have recruited heavily over the summer and most of those attacking players have came with bags of engine power. Clayton Donaldson and Wes Thomas are up front and both threaten to break on times like they did against Ipswich.

Wide areas also now have added pace with the additions of Mark Duffy and David Cotterill. Birmingham also have new youth team graduate Demarai Gray who is very quick.

Having pace is allowing Birmingham to hurt teams from more areas of the pitch. Winning the ball in midfield the team can now hurt teams before their more advanced players are able to get back.

Blues can also press the ball quicker, limiting space and time for the other team, keeping them further away from the Blues goal.

It has been a positive start so far this season and only time will tell how well Clark’s new system is going to work.

So why is pace so important? can teams do without out? let us know what you think below.
