Birmingham Training on Shape

Birmingham City are now focusing on a new approach to defending in order to earn them more points on game day.

Gary Rowett and his team have came in and addressed the number one problem the team had, straight away. Blues were losing too many games, via individual mistakes and poor defending.

But now Blues have conceded just one goal in three games, against some of the biggest teams in the league.

It is being done on the training ground. Rowett has the team working on a strict defensive shape in order to get them some confidence to go forward with freedom.

Blues sit with almost a back six at times, making it very difficult for teams to play in the Birmingham half of the field.

Player’s are being told to let the opposition have the ball in their half and make it difficult for them when they come forward into the Blues half.

Players like Stephen Gleeson are being used in a deeper, more solid role to supply more bodies in defence and to make it hard for teams to play through Blues.

For home games this is immensely important. Tackles, going past a man and getting a shot away are sure fire ways to get the crowd back on side and signing for the players.

It seems Rowett’s style of play will be tapping into that in the coming weeks and we look forward to it, whilst this positivity drapes over everyone connected to the club.
