Stephen Gleeson has been performing much better in a Blues shirt under Gary Rowett and he puts it down to the new boss coming in to help him.

The midfielder revealed how the new boss never even mentioned the 8-0 defeat to Bournemouth, he just got the players to get on with playing football.

“The Bournemouth game was terrible for everyone involved at the club.

“The manager didn`t mention it and it has not been mentioned again.

“We had to give those performances at home.

“But we need to keep it going and hopefully I can get more and more confident each game I play and do more of that, the way I have played.” Gleeson told the Birmingham Mail.’

The Irishman also went on to speak about how the new atmosphere at St Andrews has taken him by surprise. The player’s, until now, had been caught between dismayed fans towards the board and a lack of support for Lee Clark whilst he was in the job.

But now, the good sounds have returned from the crowd.

“That was my first experience of a really big crowd here.

“When Watford scored and had a bit of pressure, they pulled us through. All second half they were brilliant.

Gleeson will be hoping to continue his decent form as Blues shape up against Rotherham in their first game after the international break.
