Birmingham City are reportedly interested in the services of Derby County defender Jake Buxton, according to footballleagueworld.co.uk.

The solid centre back is now deemed surplus requirements at the IPro stadium according for FLW after the Rams added Reading defender Alex Pearce to their ranks following the arrival of former Real Madrid assistant manager Paul Clement.

Following the news that broke a few weeks ago that former loanee Rob Kiernan had rejected a move to the club following delayed paperwork and had later decided to join Scottish side Rangers, the link to Buxton does not come as much of a surprise with Blues boss Gary Rowett looking to add to his defence.

Despite stating that he has enough defenders, should one of the three main centre backs, Paul Robinson, Michael Morrison and Jonathan Spector get injured then Rowett would potentially be left short in that position, even though left back Jonathan Grounds can also play there.

Should Jake Buxton move to Birmingham City, a small fee would have to be paid as he is still under contract with the Rams but after news emerged that the club can now begin to challenge for players who demand small transfer fees, anything could happen with this deal.

Blues fans, do you think signing Buxton would be a good option for the club? Or do you think there are potentially bigger targets to go after? Let us know in the comment section down below!
