Birmingham has confirmed that assistant manager Terry McDermott and first team coach Derek Fazackerley have left the club by mutual consent; Lee Clark has also confirmed that decision to let them go was not taken by the board.

The news broke almost two weeks ago that the pair were going to leave the club but with severance packages still being negotiated it was deemed inappropriate for the club to comment.

McDermott had a successful playing career for Liverpool, winning three European Trophies. He worked with Clark at Huddersfield and was brought to Birmingham with him.

Fazackerley is well known in football having had roles with England and Newcastle. Fazackerly had Newcastle ties with Lee Clark and worked in this trio at Huddersfield.

Clark has looked within for fresh ideas for the first team, Steve Watson, Richard Beale and John Vaughan have all emerged in the dugout in recent games.

There is still a large level of good feelings between the three men, Clark has described them as good men and I`m sure they will find new jobs with ease; should they so desire. Former Wolves star Mel Eves certainly thinks so in his Birmingham Mail article.

There was no hint that this move was coming and it indeed shocked Birmingham fans who immediately began to worry about the clubs board imposing cuts on the coaching staff; although this turned out to be untrue.

McDermott had consistently faced the media for Clark and remained positive about Birmingham`s chances in each game, there was no reason for the outside world to believe the coaches may have lost faith in the squad or set up of the club.

Birmingham now look to move forward with a fresh injection of coaching.
