Birmingham City manager Lee Clark has announced that Tom Adeyemi will be the new vice-captain this season and will wear the armband when Robinson is not playing.

Adeyemi joined Birmingham last season and has impressed everyone around the club with his professionalism, said Clark. The manager also said that his reaction when told about the role convinced him that it was the right decision.

He was taken aback when I spoke to him about it on Thursday morning, but delighted also. It`s something you enjoy seeing when you tell a player some good news like that. His reaction was really heartfelt and honest.

Clark explained it was an idea he had for a while but didn`t want to place Tom under any additional pressure last season. The manager also isn`t concerned by Adeyemi`s young age, for him he says, it`s all about character and showing Tom how important he is to Birmingham.

I think it`s a great choice for two reasons. Adeyemi has the qualities to be a quality captain and like Clark said, there is always the honorary side to a role and we need to show our best leaders that we recognise and celebrate their ability.

The Norwich born midfielder made 35 appearances for Birmingham last season, becoming an important part of the team. Blues recently rejected an approach from Cardiff for the player.
