A Royal Point

After setting the standard with impressive wins against Norwich and Fulham, Blues were always going to be bought back down to earth sooner or later.

But last night’s goalless draw at Reading – and a third successive clean sheet – marked a very good result for Blues.

The games are coming thick and fast and if Blues can’t win a game they must try not to lose it and that was definitely the case at the Madejski Stadium. The aggressive pressing game twice in three days was beyond Blues. The decision to ‘rest’ Clayton Donaldson and Jacques Maghoma was, I assume, with an eye on Saturday’s visit of Sheffield Wednesday.

Although the season is still relatively new, games will continue to pile up and Gary Rowett, as every other Championship manager does, likes to utilise his squad fully to lower the risk of burnout.

Burnout was the biggest issue towards the latter end of last season so the approach to make tweaks to the starting team is a sensible one.

Blues remain in the top six and have had a fairly good start to the campaign. And taking four points out of two away games in three days is a very credible return.

Now we look to Saturday…
