Who takes the spot kicks?

Luke Turner discusses our penalty taker situation…

Blues returned to winning ways last night as they defeated Rotherham United 4-2 at St Andrews.

Gary Rowett`s side weren’t at their best by any means but to still score four goals and win the game was refreshing, although you probably won’t see a side as bad as Rotherham over the course of the season.

Something that came to my mind again was the penalty taking situation. David Cotterill scored with a well taken spot kick last night but do we have a designated taker?

Paul Caddis has successfully taken them for us over the last couple of seasons but he’s been frozen out and has since picked up an injury.

If Clayton Donaldson was on the pitch then I guess he’d be our first choice taker as he has already taken five this season, scoring three.

I must admit, I’m not too confident when he steps up to take them and would prefer it to be someone else.

When he’s not on the pitch I think it would be best for us to have a number two taker and then stick to it.

Although Cotterill scored yesterday, Rowett`s post match comments suggested that Jacques Maghoma was meant to take the penalty.

Now, if that was the case then Maghoma should’ve taken the ball and Cotterill would’ve known to step away.

If this wasn’t the case then I suppose the person who takes it is the one who feels most confident at the time and Cotterill obviously felt this way.

Of course, when the ball hits the back of the net it doesn’t really matter who scores the penalties but it would be nice if there was a little bit more structure to it.

We don’t want players arguing amongst themselves as it only adds more pressure to the eventual taker of the penalty.

If I were Rowett then Cotterill would be my first choice penalty taker with either Donaldson, Adams or Maghoma as back ups. I would also trust Stephen Gleeson from 12 yards.

Blues fans, who would you prefer to take the penalties for us?
