To move forward, players may have to move on

So, we`ve heard it from the horses mouth. Gary Rowett is still looking to bring players in but may need to ‘sacrifice one or two`.

This statement really sends a dose of realism to the equation with regards to where Blues are as a club. Rowett would love nothing more than to be in the position to throw five-million quid at a ready-made Championship quality player, as other clubs in this league can.

Moving James Vaughan on was probably to free up some funds. But while Rowett won`t want to unsettle his squad, there is a clear need for extra quality if Blues are to progress this season.

Reece Brown was seen as a sufficient back-up option to replace Andy Shinnie, who joined Hibernian on loan last week – and youngster Charlee Adams joined up with former Blues boss Lee Clark at Kilmarnock.

But to get in a player of the ilk Blues need, Rowett may have to sacrifice more than one of his current crop.

Nicolai Brock-Madsen deserves more time, but seems to have been a poor investment. Obviously, he could prove me wrong and end up being Blues` next 20-goals-a-season striker. However, I highly doubt it.

With the transfer window slamming shut next week, where does this leave Blues?

Anything can happen between now and then and I know that a lot of work is being done behind the scenes to try and secure a left back. Other players are also being monitored and Rowett is well aware of the finances he needs to raise to put together a package to bring in these players.

That is, of course, a difficult task. When the pot is empty, the pot is empty and only by ‘freeing up` some funds can Blues bring in another player or two. It`s is highly likely that Rowett is scouring the loan market and free agents. The only certainty is that a player will be signed by the close of the transfer window.
