Three Championship strikers Blues should buy

As the January transfer window creeps ever closer, names have begun to fly out of the hat in terms of players that could potentially be heading to St.Andrew’s, including Henri Lansbury, so that set my mind running.

I thought to myself, what strikers are there in the Championship that would do the job for Birmingham City and Gianfranco Zola that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Okay, it is pretty well know that Blues have more money to spend this year and hopefully that won’t price them out of some moves because more teams will push the price up, but down below are three strikers who I think the club should go for in the January transfer window.

1. WILL GRIGG – WIGAN ATHLETIC.

Although he hasn’t been as on fire as he was last season for the Latics, Grigg is still a very deadly striker at this level and it wouldn’t surprise me if he moved away from the DW Stadium in January with Wigan sat second from bottom in the table.

The 26-year-old Northern Irishman has found the net six times this season in 23 appearances for the Latics but he could well be looking for a move away as they look like they could be going down.

Despite Blues announcing the signing of Lukas Jutkiewicz earlier this week, I believe that a striker is still high on Zola’s agenda, so could we see the club making a move for Grigg, quite possibly.

2. NAHKI WELLS – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN.

At the age of 26, Wells has established himself as a dangerman in the Championship and it really does surprise me that he is still with the Terriers and that nobody has snapped him up sooner.

Granted, Town sit higher than Blues in the table at the time of writing this copy, but what striker wouldn’t want to come and work under the watchful eye of Zola?

Wells has found the back of the net five times in 21 appearances this season and he could well be available for under £3 million if Blues go about their business smartly.

Personally, I think Wells would be a good option for us because he has experience at this level, but I also believe that he is a very similar player to Che Adams so this might be a striker that the club look at but don’t pursue.

3. BRITT ASSOMBALONGA – NOTTINGHAM FOREST.

What a signing this would be for any Championship, let alone Blues! Assombalonga cost Forest £5.5 million in August 2014 when he moved there from Peterborough United and so far this season, despite his injury, he has been in fine form.

Six goals in nine games proves that he is still as sharp as ever and that he really is a striker who is very deadly in the second tier of English football.

A move for Assombalonga would be rather expensive, around £8 million in my eyes, which would mean that the club would be pushed to bring in any other quality players, but I think it would really benefit Blues if they brought somebody in of his quality.

Forest are currently 17th in the league and he may well be looking to move to a club that is pushing for the play-offs, could he be looking for a move to Blues? Who knows!

Out of the three that have been named, I would really like to see the club try and make a deal for Assombalonga work, but any of the three would be seen as great pieces of business.

Blues fans, out of the three Championship strikers, who would you like to see the club pursue? Let us know in the comment section down below!
