Despite constant rumours linking David Sullivan to every and any club nearer his Essex home, the Blues co-owner is adamant the club ‘need him more than ever’ to pull him out of our current plight, despite the demands it places on his family life.

Sullivan told the official Blues magazine:

‘When I bought the club, I said that when it was higher in the league than it has ever been before, I would think that I have done my bit and move on.

‘That broadly still remains the case. Of course, I enjoy the club, fiercely support it, and have a close relationship with (manager) Steve Bruce.

‘But I do also feel at times that I would like to be back to the early days in getting stuck into another club that needs my help.

‘I do get worn down with the demands from the agents on behalf of the big players. With my working-class background, I find it extremely hard to justify paying someone £30,000 a week.

‘I now also have two small boys and I miss them when I come to football. My girlfriend is great and she comes to all of the games but it does take us hours to get to games.

‘By the time we get home, it’s late and we have missed the time we spend with the boys. In an ideal world, I would move the club 100 miles south.

‘But, of course, that can never happen and, for now, with current results, the club needs me more than ever so I have no plans to leave.’

It’s nice to see a bit of commitment at a time when some of the playing staff have been found lacking. Obviously it’s a bit of a long journey every other week, and when you face unwarranted criticism from the fans it must make it seem like a waste of time.

So here at Vital Blues we would just like to say: thanks David. Keep up the good work.

And at least he’s not Doug Ellis ;).
