Birmingham City today released the statement we have all been hoping to read. Gary Rowett is not leaving the club and both parties remain committed to each other. But is this a sign of things to come? As Blues continue to rise and impress, teams who are struggling will naturally want to snatch Rowett away.

There has been plenty of speculation as to what teams are chasing Rowett, some bookies even had Rowett as favourite for the Fulham job. Naturally it is worrying to see richer clubs casting their eye over our assets. It is somewhat of a familiar feeling these days.

This is however a good thing. A clear indication that Birmingham City are back on the map and are doing things right. Why else would clubs be looking in at the manager? Perhaps we can dare to hope to finish 6th this season.

Only time will tell if Blues are to hold onto their manager, they seem confident of doing so and based on the nature of Rowett himself I would say they have a good chance of doing so as well.

My hope is that Birmingham put a long term deal on the table to Rowett, regardless of the financial risk that presents, the club clearly needs him and it’s time they admit it in a contract. The reason I say that is because he does much more than manage the first team, he is taking care to ensure the club is built on the right foundations.

This season may well see some big changes at the club, let’s hope it is only for the right reasons!
