Koby Arthur is set to get his chance in Birmingham City’s upcoming pre-season friendlies. The Blues travel to Nuneaton Town tonight, in what will signal the beginning of the season, for the fans at least.

Rowett has told bcfc.com that the youngster missed the Marbella tour due to a slight injury, but is expected to be fit and rested in time for tonight’s game.

Arthur has recently signed a new two year deal, despite speculation linking him away from the club and what appeared to be a good while of consideration before signing.

Perhaps assurances have been made on both sides of the deal, Blues to provide the chance to play and Arthur to take it. What is clear is that Rowett is ready to trust the player in the Championship, but for that the happen the player must go and earn his place in the team.

These pre-season friendlies will tell us exactly how much of Arthur we are going to see in competitive matches this season. Back in November is was Arthur that started Rowett’s first game, but he quickly fell out of favour and ended up going out on loan before picking up an injury that all but ended his season.

This week Koby Arthur has been at Wast Hills battling for fitness, on the fitness bikes and rowing machine to ensure he is ready to fight for his place when the squad returns.

One thing is for sure, that with so many forward thinking players in Gary Rowett’s squad, it will be a tough fight for all of the players to get on the team sheet come the first day of the season.

‘it will be up to him to show massively that he has stepped ahead of one of the others. That’s going to be everyone’s challenge.’
