Rowett made his own bed

Simon Jordan’s words come as no surprise. The former Crystal Palace’s chairman accusing Gary Rowett of flirting with every available job was only what we confirmed on this very website back in December.

As we said at the time, Rowett’s refusal to sign a new contract at Birmingham City, coupled with him flashing his knickers at Fulham, QPR and Wolves, was his undoing at St. Andrews.

So while the Blues fans feel aggrieved at his dismissal, talk of the club mistreating him is wide of the mark.

Rowett was looking for a bigger job. He can’t be blamed for that but the club also cannot be criticised for sacking him before they ended up managerless. Whether you agree with the appointment of Gianfranco Zola or not is irrelevant – Rowett was sacked for a reason.

So all the talk of his loyalty to Blues is misplaced. He wasn’t mistreated, he wasn’t unfairly sacked – he made his bed, now he’s lying in it.
